Two versions of Godfrey's Cordial I am pretty certain were made right here in South Jersey. The flared lip on the left is likely a product of Williamstown New Jersey. At the time of manufacture in 1835 the glass works were called the free will Glass works of Joel Bodine. The bottle on the right with the Wistar like lip was likely made in the 1812 to 1820 period at Johnathan Haines Gloucester Glass Works in Present day Clementon New Jersey as each company listed them in their catalogs in these time periods. Godfrey's Cordial was first brought to this country from England in the Mid 1700s. A main ingredient of this nostrum was opium.Woman used this product to quiet screaming baby's. Both bottle are void of any embossing and have the early South Jersey color light green seen often in these old medicines. This bottle style was known to contain Godfrey's from the mid 1700s to the late 1800s. This is the basis for the attribution.
