I think this has to be some common product because I took 11 out of the same dig area so far but I can't find the use of it. I guess iodine or Merthiolate... Does anyone know what the heck it is? Any help would be appreciated. So far all I have is that the 3 lug closure was used from midish 1800's.

I agree it is some sort of medicine ..from the looks of them [are they machine made?] I would say they are pretty modern..as far back as the 1920's at the most.I say this because I see some air bubbles in one..or else I would say they were from the 1960's at best...

Any markings on the bottom?JAMIE

I took a couple pic of the bottoms. They have a seam up bottle all the way to the top on right front corner and left back.

I think these must be someones medical supply thing from maybe a decade or more? Hope to heck they didn't need that much Merthiolate or what-not in one year:p

I was going by this as the only info I had found on the closure.

"One unique closure to the late 1930s was a three point screw top. Unlike most screw caps, the three point screw top had three lugs jutting out from the lip which were to engage a metal cap. This closure can be found on Whisky and medicine bottles of the 1837-1940 period."

From bottles I have found there I guess it's a turn of the century dump. I keep wishing I'd find some of these that aren't just the tops;

They are huge, usually 5 to 8 inches across the broken bottoms. Don't know what they were either.

I find a lot of the aqua Sawyers Crystal Blueing bottles that are intact though so they must be tough little buggers.

I'm hoping I'm right the bottoms are Owens Ring?

The bottles are very similar to exact except for the bottoms so I think they are some popular household thing but the bottle makers changed over the years.

Thank you for your help.

Just to help place time period these are from the same dig. I cut off an aqua but plain Pinex bottle embossed on sides.

The closest I found shape wise yesterday was Bell-Ans bottles but all I saw were embossed and didn't have the same lug tops. They are similar in being brown and squat little bottles...
