I picked this jar up for 10 bucks at a flea Market. Im pretty sure its a reproduction Jar but none the less looks great in the window. Can anyone tell me where they were made? This is a putnam 277 embossed base jar. Thanks for any info you can share.

I was just directed over here from another forum. I am no expert on reproduction jars, all I know is I hate them. Yours is definitely a FAKE but if you like it I think $10 seems like a fair price as very little can be purchased today for $10.

I can't imagine what else you would want to know about this but maybe someone else will chime in and be nicer than I can be.

Yeah I was just wondering where they were made and what company made them. I think its a good looking jar but like you the more I look at it the more I want to get rid of it because its a fake.

I am no jar expert but it had been my understanding that the only amber lightning reproduced is the one with the 227 on the bottom , could ne wrong though .

Sadly, not only is this a reproduction jar - it is a modern reproduction of a reproduction jar. Back in the 70's & '80's I think it was, reproduction Lightning jars were made, and the only way you could really tell they were repro was the 227 on the base (however some REAL jars have 227 on the base) - plus they had a smooth lip instead of ground. Then, sometime within the last 5 to 10 years, somebody decided to make repros of these with that ridiculous high kickup on the lid - which can be spotted a mile away, screaming REPRO! Guess that way they don't have to figure out how to actually attach a Lightning wire. Sorry, that goes against any jar collector's sense of aesthetics...

I'm not crazy about the high lid either but if they were made in a pt or ½ pt I'd get one for $10 for sure. I like smalls!
I hope I didn't give anyone any ideas.
