My dig partner and I got an invite from a fellow local digger for a privy dig over the weekend. We started at 7 am and at 8 pm put the last bit of dirt back in. 16 feet is deep for our area with most pits going about 4 to 12 foot.

I was super excited to get this in the pick because I didnt have one E Roeschel and Son. I already have a Ernst Roeschel and also several William Roeschel (the son) so this will fit nicely in the collection

Was there anything in the hole besides dirt and rocks? Looks like a well build brick stack.

This one puzzles me, Its a E Roeschel but its in German, when i did a google translate I found it means bitter stomach drops.
Now comes the part i dont understand, I know from my book research that Ernst Roeschel came from germany and showed up in Boonville in 1850, could this bottle possibly have came with him? (its not pontil) or was he catering to the german population in Boonville? or was it just common to have german on a bottle back then? What everybodys thoughts on this?

one last pic. we ended up giving the homeowner a ton of bottles some Boonville and other embossed. I also got a couple of jars in the pick that i have yet to clean one still had green beans in it that were still as green as the day they were put in it, i wish i would of snapped a pic of it before we dumped them in they alley and they turned a nasty brown color. I also found my first warners safe but didnt get it in the pick. All in all it was a great dig and im glad we got the invite and am very happy with my new Boonville bottles

That pit looked like fun. That's a lot of cool stuff pulled out of that hole. Congrats on a successful dig fellas!
