Tom (Treasurehunt) and I were digging a hillside dump in a small town near Port Huron. The top 2-3 feet was teens to 30's stuff. Hit a powdery layer of fluff and TOC and older started popping. It was still going down at 6 feet, when we had to call it a day.

This is the blob- a Putnam closure M.J. McArron that I would date to the late 60's- early 70's. A very tough bottle to find and it was undamaged. A kinda funny look on my face...

The ring popped up as Tom was getting out of the hole. It was just laying on top of the soil. Tom's wife really likes that gold!

gold. Tom believes this was a Masonic ring, missing the stone.

Nice Blob but I don't think that is 60s or70s.That looks late 80s 90s Maybe I read it wrong

Rick,
There are several reasons that I date the bottle to the late 60's-early 70's.

Henry Putnam patented that closure in 1859. It was primarily in use between the 60's and 80's.

Michael McArron was in business in the late 60's- early 70's (in Port Huron) and then died.

When we get a Putnam blob (in Michigan) with that early style of embossing, with the slugplate down near the heel, it is almost always a earlier bottle.

Does anyone else have input on this? What are your feelings on the age, just from appearance?

Bill

Nice! Today is the seventh day in a row that the price of gold has been back on the rise. Maybe an upward trend now after the steady 3 month drop? [:D]

I think your logic and info does a good job dating it Bill, nice finds...

I hate that the price of gold is going up Ken, it means the economy remains in the tank...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr[]
