massive drought here in South Central Texas. this should be 50 feet under water and predates the lake which is only 100 years old. should I dig and where?

Wow, I'd metal detect that spot like a maniac. Not sure, but it doesn't look like siltation has been too bad over the years so great old coins may be shallow and accessible. I'd keep an eye out for other exposed wooden posts and frames and foundations; perhaps evidence of outhouses will be visible like the foundation of the structure you photographed.

I'd be digging on both sides of the stone outline, and detecting like crazy!

If those are pilings and an old building foundation I would start right there.
