Hi. I've been a member for a while, but I don't remember the site ever having this nice looking forum section all laid out like this. Not sure if it's newer, but it's nice..!! I've had this bottle for a little while, and could not find any real info on it. it's 12" tall. Semi deep purple. Says " Murphy Bros Syracuse NY" on front, and "This Bottle Not To Be Sold" on the back. Hope they don't catch the guy I bought it from...:) Says nothing on the bottom. I came back here to dig a little, and saw this nice forum going on, and thought I might be able to jump in and get a little guidence, if it's not too much trouble.

Hi,
I do collect Syracuse bottles and have several Murphy Brothers bottles. The Murphy Brothers were John and Cornelius. The were in bidness around the turn of the century. They ran a tavern, brewed ginger beer and weiss beer and bottled soda. Off the top of my head I can't recall the address, but it was probably on the north side of Syracuse. It looks like this one was cooked for a while to make it that purple. I have a clear one and an amber one of the same shape and size.
If you want some more information, reply at the forum and I'll look around for what other information I have in my files.

Hi. Thanks for the nice, and informative replies. I always wondered it's history. I bet it could tell some stories. I've had it for a while and always really liked the crudeness of it, and the color. I didn't really know what to do with it lately. Would this have any kind of decent value for collectors? I kinda thought it might, but never really knew. Thanks

OGD, is your bottle a loop seal bottle? Does it have any small letters on the back side of the bottle? It looks like it might have EHE Co on it.
I posted a picture of my aqua and amber Murphy Bros bottles on the new to the collection forum Sunday.

For some reason, Syracuse, NY beers don't command high prices like comparable bottles from other cities. Not many collectors to drive prices up through competition. There were a lot of breweries and many, many variations to collect. The Murphy quart blobs tend to sell in the $15-35 range.
