Picked this up at the Keene show....Dr. Cynthia B. Stevens' Sovereign Remedy, Manchester, New Hampshire, bottle is 6-3/4" tall and open pontil. I've never seen a woman doctor on a medicine that is so early! Anyone have any information on her?

Great find, I'd never have figured that as a med if it didn't have a label, good luck on finding info on Old Doc Stevens...

She is listed in the 1890 Manchester dir as a physician at that address. It appears she was born around 1856.
Maybe she used a very old bottle?? Odd.

The economic collapse of the early 1890's may have been a reason for reusing old bottles. The re-labelled use of the 1930's are more common just because of the 40 year difference.
That's a nice example if I'm right.

Thanks much for the information...I found a "Cynthia Stevens" listed as a "doctor" in Manchester as early as 1880...certainly looks like a reused bottle unless there was an earlier doctor there by the same name. I would have guessed cologne originally....the bottle is very skinny and would not have held much.

I would love to see an advertisement for this stuff!
