This is a Shaft and Globe bottle that i found at the Goodwill for $4. It says Ioseph Frances on the blob seal. It does have a pontil mark. I'm new to bottles I'm more of a marble guy but i love glass either way. For the price i am still happy with a repo but the real thing would be awesome.
Ok thank you. Is there a reason why mine says Ioseph Frances and the one in the link say Joseph Frances? Just wondering the one I found on ebay say Joseph also and not Ioseph.
Whats going on with the base? I see quite a bit of new art type glass with ground scars like that, as if they completely ground off a pontil scar. Sometimes it looks like glass is just dripped on in a circle like pattern. Is this to mimmic pontil scars or do they actually still use the pontil type method in glass blowing? This has confused me since the beginning of my collecting.
Like this one below. Sorry to be asking a separate question in this post but I figured it was related to the original bottle in the post.[attachment=IMG_2572.JPG][attachment=IMG_2573.JPG]
I was just looking at a similar pontil mark on a Saratoga Spring water bottle. It has a triangle with a vent dot in it. Tjhat looks like the bottom to have. RED M.
Hi again Mason; I just wanted to tell you if you are selling that one, please let me know. I have been working on getting a homepage coverage - covering applied handles and pouring lip formation on pitchers. I have a pair of 4-part molded patriotic green pitchers, a big kitchen pitcher, and my better half has some also. I also have a stem and bulb, with an attached handle with a thumb paddle on top of the handle, and a pouring lip. It may not be needed but the trick of doing these things with mouth and tools by hand is what fascinates me. RED Matthews
