hello All, I just picked up these two mallet bottles and I'm hoping they are early American...maybe Wistar? Any information would be greatly appreciated. I have not seen this form before but couldn't pass them up. They are about 7.5 inches tall. I can provide additional pics if necessary. Thanks in advance! ChrisP

I totally hear what you guys are saying they don't look quite right but i have been unable to find anything like them online. They also seem to be fairly crude...maybe too much so? As far as looking old I can find find countless chestnuts online that look like they were made yesterday. On the other hand, with my black glass i just know... Does anyone know how to reach Stephen Atkinson (spelling?) the guy who has researched the early NJ glass makers and others? In order make up for this i will post a picture of a miniature shaft and globe i recently dug. this one is definitely real :) Thanks!Chris

I don't know about Williamsburg but Jamestown made a lot of bottles, many are discontinued. I don't see anything close to Wistarburg in that. The pontil looks like it was fired smooth like a museum would do to avoid cuts but an early glasshouse probably wouldn't.Steve's website is http://historical-american-glass.com/ but I don't know if there is contact info. I think it has a blog.
