Purchased this N.E.G.M. Co. Insulator for $7, probably overpaid but I had never heard of this company before. I have always been fond of the Beehive Type Insulators. Any info appreciated!!!!!
I like beehives, too! NEGM is New England Glass Manufacturing Company. The company apparently existed around 1899 and didn't last beyond a year or so, but managed to make a lot of insulators in a short time (or the molds were sold and re-used without blotting the embossing). The beehive is probably the most common of the NEGM styles and seems to turn up all over the U.S. Seven seems a bit high compared to insulator show prices, but it's not outrageous.
They were used extensively here in Ontario too on Canadian Pacific Lines. I know of quite a few spots where they are actually still on poles along the railway.
