From here it looks like a wine bottle.

I was thinking wine as well even though not knowing the size of the bottle . A friend of mine years ago dug out a bottle similar to that with an open pontil out of an out house pit we came upon , it was much cruder than this one though . I felt it was a wine bottle . It was pretty much the size of a quart whiskey only a bit smaller in diameter .

bottle is just under 10 inches tall....picture of pontil is in next post....

Looks like a cylinder whiskey or most likely a type of wine bottle. Open pontiled with a bit of a kicked up base. Looks to date around 1870 or earlier. Nice amount if whittle!
