Hi EveryoneI got this case gin last summer at a yardsale for $1. I brought it home and put it in with my collection and didn't think much about it until yesterday when I took a closer look at it. The bottle isn't symetrical, has no mold seams and has a crudely applied finish. I was wondering if this bottle was freeblow and how old is it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Anthony
Photo will be much appreciate. 1. photo of the entire bottle 2. Photo of the bottom. It's hard to tell...because sometimes the seam line is very-very fade.Although there is a molded gin bottle without seam line!!Is there any pontil scar on bottom?
A case gin for only $1 is a great find.Olive Green or Amber are usually a case gins common colors.Does it have a seal or any embossing? The Flared Finish are usually the older free blown case gins, the applied finish are not quite as old. Please Include a pic.
Thanks for the replies. I did upload 3 pictures but for some reason didn't show up on the post. This is the 1st time I've tried it with the new forum format. Let me try again to see If I can get them to postAnthony
There's no embossing and it has a stamp like mark on the base which can be seen in the pictures above this post. Hopefully the pictures came through this time. It looks to be a light olive green color to me. Unfortunately it's a cloudy day so I can't get a good window shot with sunlight shining through it. I'll get one on the next sunny day and post it. [attachment=5.png] [attachment=6.png] Here's another picture of the bottom that shows how crooked the bottle is and another one looking down on the shoulder of the bottle.
Check the top of the arch on the side panels for a seam. They are usually a 3 piece mold and often hard to find but should have some trace of mold line. Often they are very short as the neck area is short and slopped with crudity from lip treatment. I have dug these with the same base marking from dump sites dating 1890's-toc. Hope this helps. Jack
