Now that the summer doldrums have set in, I propose we start a new, and hopefully continuing tradition: Each month, choose a "favorite" jar from your collection, post a photo of it and briefly describe why it's a favorite. I'll start this month with my Dolly's Mason Jar. It's a recut mold of the Mom's Mason Jar with - shall we say - some rather remarkable alterations. As I understand it, some of the graveyard shift workers altered a mold and ran a few of these jars. I'm not sure if there's anyone out there who knows how many of these were made, but if someone does know - please, please let us know. It's listed in Redbook as No. 796-3, and "unpriced". I got it on eBay for $30, do you think that's a deal? a steal? a ripoff? Can't wait to see your faves.... -Tammy

Great idea for a thread Tammy, and I hope that others participate. Your jar is really interesting as well! Here's one of my favorites. This jar is either Ball blue or very deep aqua. Half gallon. When I put it next to other Ball blue jars, there is not much difference in color or depth of color. This is the seediest Globe that I have seen - it has hundreds and hundreds of small to medium sized bubbles evenly distributed throughout the entire jar. I'm not sure of its actual value since crudity can sway value immensely. [attachment=Blue Seedy Globe.jpg]

Easy to see why that Globe is a favorite, love those bubbles and the deep aqua color! I sure hope this idea catches on as well, I've got at least a couple dozen more favorites of my own. Plus, I enjoy seeing the prized possessions of other forum members. C'mon you guys - dust'em off and let us see them!

Nice one! With our hundred degree days, that snow in the background is almost as appealing as the jar...

I know its a late input...but this was my July jar....in the process of getting it cleaned. No embossing or other marks except an awesome pontil mark on the base. The parts of the glass that are clear reveals an awesome whittle effect....to me it represents the very early days of the modernization of home canning. This jar was dug on the Ohio - Kentucky border area... David

Great idea to get the jar forum moving. Here is a jar that somehow missed it's debut in Redbook 11. It is a variant of 1058-1 but the E is open. There are not many of these known either , I did have another in my hand but did not buy it.I has a nice greenish tinge to it , Ground lip, quart. It was made at either Humpherys' or Lamont Glass factory in Nova Scotia. It is one of my favorites.
