Firstly, Jim, you came off too strong on this. Secondly, Jim, you were only trying to give your expert opinion so don't kick yourself later.
Thirdly, MainRelic, your attack on Jim so strongly tends to tell investigators that you have reason to hide--such as potentially something is not as it should be here. Fourthly, please do calm down before I squirt you with a Water gun as Jim has already said he didn't mean to accuse you.

I absolutely love this site ! I was still trying to learn how to navigate this site and trying to figure it out ? I'm a digger not a computer guy ! The battery rest was dug from the ground ! I honestly thought it was a telegraph wire insulator . I did learn from you Jim ( in a round about way that it was a battery rest ! )
I know you see cooky posts from first timers now and again ! And I am not taking offense with any past comments ! I have been digging for 43 yrs . Ever since my dad made
Me go at age 8 . When I am done typing I will be thinking g about where I will be digging g next. ! MaineRelic

Now !

I have decided to stay with this thread since I do like everything out in the open with nothing to hide ! Especially because Bob said my post was suspect because I initially took offense to Jim commenting twice about how he has seen it and it's not that hard to do. ! Commenting on a piece he had never seen before ! As it turns out it may be a new type. ! I Guess I better improve my manners on here ! Anyways it actually about the find. ! I do not have an expensive camera ! But here are better ones than the ones from my phone. ! MaineRelic

Looks like a Cornell's "bureau knob" insulator to me. CD780. Supposedly the earliest of telegraph insulators, and a danged nice find.

I'd tend to agree with sandchip now that we have the measurements. It's way too small to be a CD 61 battery rest. Real nice find and very scarce. That's the first one I've seen in probably 10 years. Looks to be in great shape too. By the way it books at 5,000 - 7,500 if in good condition so that doesn't hurt either. Chris

Well I have seen a lot of glass products, but not one of these. It obviously was made to fit over something and act as a handle for pressure application. I assume it was made in a pressing operation. Some one should recognize it's application. I have seen Drapery retainer glass knobs, and a lot of things of interest - all the way up to military tank windows. So this is a glass mystery, not a bottoe mystery! RED M.

Just to clarify, I'd be 99.9% positive it's a CD 780, it's a very early insulator and is considered part of the threadless family, it was mounted on an early version of the pin and had the wire run beside the wire groove and held on with a tie wire. The measurements are the clincher. I'll attach a copy of the blueprint diagram from the price guide - the measurements are basically bang on. Great find! Congrats.

Much better, MainRelic, and the photos are better than what I usually have to show. Congratulations on the very awesome find.
