A very odd grinding job, very odd indeed. It is so odd that it makes me suspicious, as if the neck had been broken, and they used a Dremel to grind it........ Bottles of this nature typically had a smooth finish on the top, perhaps a ground throat to accept the stopper, but like this? Very strange.

Thank you for the information, yah someone told me I had quite the knack for finding unusual bottles. I thought the same thing about the neck being broke off if thats the case it did it perfectly. I dont know if you can tell from the pic or not but it looks like it was done intentionally it has like a pour spout. I dont know like I said I've never even owned a pontiled bottle.

Pontil is legit, it is common to have pontil scars on the base of older decanters and higher end glass, although they are commonly ground out, leaving a round polished area on the base. My parents have a glassware set, pitchers, decanters, glasses from when they married in the late 1950's, all the larger items have ground pontil scars on the base. This is also seen on some laboratory and pharmacy glass. On a honeymoon trip to Ohio in 1991, we stopped for the day at an amusement part, name escapes me, but man, they had a ton of roller coasters. Anyway, while wandering the park, we went to, I am guessing here, Frontier Land, and son of a gun, there was a real live glass works, and they were making glass. I sat for several hours, spellbound. Ended up bringing home a cobalt pitcher, and matching candlesticks. I watched them make the items right in front of me, and they shipped it once they had been annealed. No walls or barriers, you could smell the glass, sense the heat on your face, awesome.
