Still new, but she's only getting worse-- I've never had one get worse after getting home. She's a gorgeous violet, but won't eat much and I have her separated from the other female betta to try and help remove her stress, but she's getting worse and I don't want to lose her.

This is a more colorful picture of her: See how strong the violet is? She's the only female I've personally seen with violet fins--she also has violet dots on her body in a stripe. She's currently in a more established tank with several calm tropical fish and three minnows who stick to themselves. There are places to hide, I just hope she'll eat.

Any superficial indications of bacterial or fungal infection or parasites? Such afflictions are common killers of already-weakened or injured fish if left untreated.

The pictures aren't very good but it looks like fin rot and she should have been isolated immediately. Do that now and change the water in the established tank and treat the water. Stress is a cause of problems with fish that prefer solitude but fin rot, ich and such are usually bacterial or parasitic. It's been years since I've had an aquarium but that's what I remember.

She has no parasites and the water she's now in is good, Plumbata. Eric, thank you.
Hopefully she'll live... I'd be very upset to lose her-- and other fish. Last fish-killing issues I had was tuberculosis of two bettas....

My wife use to work at school and at the summer break would bring the betas home. We could not have two together. Special food. clean water. Everything by the book. She was always devistated when one didn't survive. Buster

Females can be kept together often, but the white one was causing unnecessary stress by following her around. They had a 2.5-gallon tank with a damaged Hutch (hole in the shoulder that I rounded-off the sharp edges) and 2 living plants to hide in, two types of food, and sand. We've had bettas for years--this time we got stuff to add nutrients specifically for bettas' water. My last two females died of TB, my last male died after 3 years of joy-- he laid on the bottom of his tank for two days, still alive, so I killed him to stop his suffering. To most people, they're pretty. To me, they're family.

Tank:
It's heated too. I try to make it all perfect--the curtain diffuses some light but not too much for them.
