I love 1920s-30s landfills, and milk bottles are the biggest reason that I do! Most of my best keepers have been embossed milks and sodas. There aren't many pontils, blobs, hutches, poisons, etc., although they do occasionally turn up. There are also about five million #@*^ ketchup and Clorox bottles to throw out of the way [:D], but it's worth it! Of course, old pontil dumps are sweet, but I can have a lot of fun in a 1930s landfill. ~Jim

Great example Bram -
I've found some very valuable bottles and items in some later dumps. Like many, I like/collect the earlier glass. Without these later finds, I wouldn't be able to buy/collect the older glass. I try to dig at all the sites I can ...early or late, I'm not picky.

There's at least one treasure at every site.[:)]

Wow..That was an impressive price! With milk bottles, it all depends on where they are from. In some areas they are very popular, in others, almost nobody wants them. My area (Central PA) is big on milks, and there are a few here that will bring over $1000. I was never really into them until I dug a few nice ones, now I'm hooked [:)]. ~Jim

I haven't posted much but I read a lot and your posts are captivating and addicting so I felt the need to put up some pics as well.

Here is a pic of a pretty big and DEEEEEP 1880s - 1930s landfill used by a small village and some of the loot that came out of it. I was down to ~9 ft and I STILL haven't even hit bottom yet, but guaranteed to get bottles at any layer! They are just LOADED in here and you'll find a sweet corky med mixed in with some cobalt screw caps, it's a pretty odd dump but exciting fun. I'll be getting to the bottom of this dump soon when we fix the tail piles and make it safer, it has been very humid. Just today I got into a sweet pontilled 3 piece mold today in the heat at the deepest spot, I pull it up "WAOOOH" and the neck is missing :( I'll snap a pic of it soon. Won't be back there until the heat wave subsides.

I also hunted down a sweeet new rural farm dump and I will post a pic of that site when I dig it this weekend.

That amber flask is a Caldwell's rum, they show up in the top layers. Has "federal Law prohibits Sale..." in the back, post prohibition. They were a MA based distillery and I think they stopped production by 1930. Gotta love that embossing of the ship! Couple ribbed poisons in there too.

Ciao!
