Is this a Stoddard or early New England Demijohn?

If so, value?

If not, any ideas on origin?

Your opinion is greatly appreciated.

Nice bottle! I don't think it was blown in Stoddard, but it's difficult to say absolutely from images.

The red-amber bottles in this form are more likely to be blown in Connecticut such as at Westford Glass Works, Westford, Connecticut, 1857-73. But, again, this is just educated guess-work. Demijohns are notoriously difficult to attribute to individual glass works.

Hi Harry,

Thanks for your helpful response. After 100+ views for my post with no replies I was giving up hope I'd get a reply. I went to the Demijohn page link you provided and on the tab titled "Page 4 - Gallery" shows "Demijohn 20" which is very close in color, whittle, size, shape, applied and tooled lip, with smooth base as the one I have.

Besides all the above characteristics it has a wonderful weight and feel to the glass and outside of a few minor scratches is attic mint.

It's a lovely bottle in a desirable form, no question. You can see how they are appreciated by checking the "closed" auctions of similar bottles on eBay.

Very nice demijohn, amber is a very desirable color for these. Almost looks like it was sand pontiled.
