Hello Jim, Why the spiral top threads?? were they used to wrap anchoring wire about the transmission line? as you say very nice example.........Andy

The spiral threads were designed so the insulator could be changed out without removing the tie wire. When the insulator was spun off the pin it would also spin off the tie wire while also leaving the line wire in place. Then a new spiral groove could be placed without having to retie it to the line wire.
