I feel like the pontil and good condition of the label make this a reproduction.
It's a Sulphate of Quinis from the U. S. A. Med. Dept.
The bottle is blown.
Pontil.
The bottle may be real, but I think the label has been aged, also the date on the label is 1863, a bit late to be used on a pontiled bottle, the USA med dept sold a lot of product and I feel that the labels would be closer to the age of their bottles. I feel that the bottle may be a repro because of the lip style, that funnel shape just doesn't look right to me........Andy
The bottle looks to be an apothecary bottle, probably newer than 1900 in my opinion. It's that 'flatness' look I've seen in repro bottles from India (in the top of the lip, and/or on the base with the mold line hugging awfully close), that sport applied tops and/or tooled lips.
Looks authentic to me. It's not the coveted USA Hosp. Dept type, and it's odd, but it looks good . All USA Hosp. bottles were smooth base if they are authentic. There are reproductions with pontils. This is an entirely different animal.
