Thank you Jim! I found this on a beach in Louisiana last year. I nearly threw it away the other day and then decided to check the bottom, which got me to researching and reading archeological papers All morning!
Are you down here in Louisiana? There are bottle collectors here and there but it seems that, for the most part, they do not play well with others...at least that is what I have been told.
Hi Jenna,
Your bottle is a "generic" type of bottle made by Owens-Illinois Glass Company, most commonly used for a medicine or liquid product of some sort (such as cleaning fluid or whatever). Possibly held cough syrup, but the type was used for many products by many companies. The code on the bottom shows it was made at Alton, IL plant ("7" to left of logo means plant #7). The logo itself (I inside of O) is the second trademark used by O-I and it wasn't instituted until 1954 at the very earliest. (It was actually several years after 1954 that all molds in use were retooled with the new logo). I think the number "8" in this case stands for 1958. The "2" at the bottom is a mold number. hope this helps!

The thing that made me think 1938 was because they used the single digit years until the 40's when they realized it could mean 38 or 48 and then switched to the double digits mid to late 40's .. I'm no expert though!!! I was in Louisiana but moved to deep east Texas 3 years ago.
