I was cleaning out a house I just bought and behind a wall panel I found a dozen or so sealed bottles of various types of whiskey. One of the more interesting is this set of 3 Early Times bottles that are designed to be modified into lamps after drinking, there is an advertising card and and mail in envelopes to request the lamp mod be sent to you. Just a very interesting set. I couldn't find any information about them or the campaign, anyone know anything about these?

looks like just an other marketing idea from the 1950s . they may be collectable one day.

Interesting that they were designed by Raymond Loewy, if you don't know who he is he was a very prolific and influential industrial designer. They might have collector's appeal for the Loewy connection, if not as bottles. I'm not quite sure whether or not the bottles themselves were designed by Loewy or they're just modeled after a Loewy lamp, but I can't find any pictures of the lamps online so that's a good sign.
It's a funny idea, I'd imagine the concept of using whiskey bottles as lamps didn't seem as tacky in the 1950's as it does today. Especially whiskey bottles that bear such a striking resemblance to shampoo bottles.
