I found this insulator in a Civil War campsite in central Virginia a long time ago. Is it a Civil War era insulator, perhaps for telegraph lines? If not that, what is it? Any idea of value (no, I am not interested in selling it)? Thanks for any help!

Yes, threadless. It is 4 1/4 inch high and 3 3/4 inch diameter at the bottom; about 2 1/4 inch diameter at the top.

I would say cd 738 worth approx. 300 to 500. Could be cd 737. Definitely one of the 2.

Great find! I've always wanted to find a threadless insulator. Never had the patience for systematically searching for them though.

Thanks for the comments. I'm not aware of the "cd 738." Is this in a book that I need to buy?

Thanks for the comments. Yes, I will definitely be keeping this one!
I'm researching insulators on line. This wasn't available when I found this insulator.
