    These came in Chemcraft Chemistry sets in the 1940's-1960's, I believe. I've seen them in clear and amber glass.

    I rarely hear anything positive about burning alcohol in lamps. More often, I hear they sometimes explode. LOL.

    Alcohol lamps were/are widely used in lace-making (for singing thread ends, I think). Alcohol fuel is not explosive. Here's the glass body of one I acquired in a collection. A complete lamp would have a metal neck with a wick, and would rest on a metal base like an egg-cup. The lamp body could be tipped at any convenient angle.
