The new flea-market downtown may look spectacular and may be huge, but since they made it.... and got rid of the old one.... it has been 99% garbage, new stuff, and food that I rarely go.

As I was walking along on Wednesday, I espied a table with some labeled screw-tops on it. Mostly, it was 1940s junk-- but to the far right, I saw this little sampler and recognised it for what it is. Even from a couple feet away, I could tell it wasn't going to be the 1960s junk you see in most flea-markets with whiskey bottles.

Upon picking it up, I looked to see that the label was done by engraved steel plate and a red over-stamp (standard label designed for general distribution and an over-stamp by companies that buy the label for their products). I then looked at the seams-- it's a tooled top. The base has an Illinois Glass-Co. diamond on it from the 1910s, so I knew it was everything I could hope for (save for a chip and a flash/crack).

The seller was a little girl (as for where her parent(s) was/were, I know not, but I sweetly asked her, "How much is this one, miss?"

"$1," she said.

And, thus, it came home with me.

The William Edwards Company, major Cleveland, Ohio, grocer of the 1800s and 1900s, put out one of its whiskey lines in this circa 1906 bottle (they added 'The' to their name in that year).

I could find other whiskey lines they had, but this one did not turn up in the Pre-Pro site nor in the online directories I searched. I also couldn't easily find another glass paper-label bottle by them-- And no small samplers like this.

See size compared to other bottles in my collection:

Anyone have images of another paper-label glass (not stoneware) bottle by this company?

What a find! As a collector of prepro whiskey bottles(especially from Maryland) you have found some great bottles!

Sand Chip, thank you. I've specialised into labeled bottles.

Glass Collector, thank you. The Maryland whiskey you see back there fell the furthest, alongside the semi-local Canmalt. They went flying from their displays when the mirror behind them tipped over. But they both have no damage from the accident!

SOCal_Bottle, thank you. I was excited to see it and also amazed that it was among so much junk.
