i'm guessing it's some sort of decanter? Amazing it survived intact. Very, very faint embossing on the base saying "Patented" and "July 21" but completely unreadable year. No other embossing. Smooth base. 8" tall, 6 12" diameter at the base. Enjoy!

Paul's Safety Ink, carafe form. Its the larger of two sizes they came in. Without label, or knowledge of the patent (Faulkner 2nd has a copy of the patent paperwork in their book) you'd never know it was an ink.

Wow, that's awesome. As you said, I'd never have known, much less suspected, it was an ink. That's why I posted the picture - in the hopes that one of the very knowledgeable people on this site would somehow give me an idea of what it was. I did not suspect I would get such a precise ID. Thanks!

botlguy, I think it's tooled, but hard to tell, really. No real seam I can discern.

Here's a link from the FOHBC to the Faulkner page. http://www.fohbc.org/PDF_Files/Ink_KeeptItInteresting.pdf

Page 32. The scan isn't great but you can see the word "Paul's" very clearly.

I own one of the smaller size. According to the Faulkners they were advertised as being useful for other stuff when re-used. Back then bottles were as often repurposed as thrown away. More frugal less consumeristic times.

and I misstated in my first post. I said two sizes. Looks like the Faulkners found 3 sizes.
