Earthenware, no stamp

Found this bottle at a foundation excavation today. The tooled top is something I don't see on these. Unfortunately no stamp or clue as to former contents. Beer? Ink? Something else?

British, likely ink. Definitely not a beverage of any kind.

I dug one just like that but mine had a small pouring spout off to one side of top lip & I assumed that made it a Ink? LEON.

Thanks. Master ink seems likely. Sadly no spout on this one.
