Hello All,

For me, this is an unusual bottle.

~ Clear Glass
~ NO SEAM MARKS
~ 12" tall - 3 3/4"base
~ Indented on the sides
~ Heavy, thick glass
~ Plain neck (thick and wide)

1. Any ideas as to the age ??
2. Any ideas as to the purpose of the bottle

Thank you for your assistance.

John

Looks like a flint glass case gin for bar or decanting use. With that lip finish, it may have originally had a silver shot cup that turned down over the mouth of the bottle. I think that the decorative treatment on the body is called pinching. It was probably an important piece out of a bar set in a wealthy household.

Just guessing here, but I'd figure it was blown around the turn of the century. It doesn't appear to be pontiled, but it's sort of hard to tell form the base shot whether or not it has a polished pontil mark.
