I am totally new to the wide world of bottles/glass (and have become obsessed!) I was given a box of old bottles that came from a home built in 1925. I've done some research and determined it has the Owens-Illinois diamond logo. My research led me to believe it was made in 1930 with mold 55. I've just read an article saying those digits were switched in early 50's. Sooo ... is it 1930? or 1950? My other quandry is the OI diamond logo is on bottom with no numbers - just the letter "F" above the logo. I've been unable to find anything explaining the "F."
Any assistance would be much appreciated!

Yay! Welcome, Cheryl. Somebody will chime in before long. There are folks here that know those codes backward and forward.

While you're at it, check out these sites. We need to start doing this with each new member. I would've flipped to have had these resources 45 years ago when the bug bit me hard. All I had were books, and I wore them out, so I can understand your obsession. I know mine has in no way diminished in the least through the years.

Look through some of the past auctions. Some really beautiful glass there.

http://www.glswrk-auction.com/

https://www.hecklerauction.com/

On Heckler's past auctions, click on "Auction #" instead of "View auction catalog". That way, you don't have to download a huge file, and can view enlarged pictures of the bottles.

Hope all this helps with your new obsession, and others here may know of other resources.

Does the other side of bottle say Patent office also or D-Patent with a Patent #? the only other two candidates would be the 1915 coke & the 1923 Christmas coke. I have a few different Coke Bottles from Detroit & Michigan. I'll be at the Flint Bottle show also since I live nearby. Welcome to the site. LEON.

I would say your Coke bottle is probably a 1955 bottle judging by the style of the embossing of the city and state on the bottom of the bottle. The older bottles had larger embossing and didn't have the circular lines between the city and state name.

Mornin' Leon - Thanks so much for the quick response. Yes, the opposite side says "Trademark Registered in U.S. Patent Office." No D-Patent or Patent #. Any guess on the "F" on the bottom over the OI Diamond logo on the bottom?
If anyone had ever told me a box of old bottles would become such a treasure to me - I would've told them they were crazy. I've spent hours researching and enjoyed every minute. I'm truly fascinated.
We will have to find each other at Flint show - two "glass nuts" can't miss a chance to, actually, meet :)
Thank you again!
- Cheryl

P.S. One of the bottles in my box is a "rare" Faygo bottle from 1969. There is "Only one on ebay!" for $37.88. If my research is correct - the bottle on ebay is 1964 and has the Anchor Hocking logo. Mine is 1969 with the I in a cirlce logo. Would love your thoughts :)

Yes, Your Coke bottle is definately 1955. The D-Patent # bottles stopped around mid 1951. so your bottle came out after that but no later then 1957. As for your Faygo bottle that is a extremely common bottle. it should have a paper label on it but it's missing. Maybe worth $1.00 unfortunatley with out the label, regardless of what the ebay one say's that may never sell at that price if a fixed or opening bid price. The rare valuable Faygo would be there first bottle the Feigenson Hutch bottle from 1907+. Heres a picture of mine below. LEON.faygohutch1.jpg
