How/ why are their air bubbles in the bottle?
What color would you say this bottle is? Light Amethyst?
Any thoughts on a date or what bottle might have been used for?

Thanks for any insights you can offer.

1. It’s a blown bottle so there is air trapped in the glass
2. It does look light pink from the manganese in the glass
3. It’s mostly a medicine bottle

Probably dates between 1890-1910. It is hand blown, but not because of the bubbles, although they are much more common in hand blown bottles, you'll see bubbles occasionally in machine blown bottles as well. Just a result of air getting in the molten batch of glass. If there was any moisture on whatever may have been used to mix or stir the glass, that moisture is vaporized and forms bubbles in addition to any aeration resulting from stirring, insertion of the blowpipe or other tools into the batch, etc. As Truck said, the color is the result of the addition of manganese oxide added to decolorize soda glass which turns light pink/purple upon long term exposure to the sun (UV rays). The common term for the color among us bottleheads is SCA or sun colored amethyst. I see this is your first post and I welcome you and hope that you'll visit often.

Nice little medicine, by the way. Probably a drugstore bottle.

Thank you both for quick response and info.

Went back out after I posted message. Getting the treasurer hunting fever! Unfortunately I got my finger through a pair of gardening gloves. Just purchased some Kevlar type gloves off Amazon. Using my trekking poles as make shift probes!

Found embossed, The Bayer on side (Aspirin) bottle with Company Div. on other side. A blue Phillips Milk Mag, an amber bottle with what looks like a flag design with a P on it! The bottle actually had a glass dropper intact inside. An embossed
Listerine bottle with the Lambert Pharma on it. As well as 3 Pepsi bottles. All of these today were a few inches under soil. Hoping older stuff is underneath. The sociologist in me thinks the peeps that dump this trash in the woods, were sickly. Probably too much Pepsi.

Nice to be able to apply some societal analysis on your finds . Look forward to seeing what else you find as you dig deeper with those Kevlar gloves!
