Well, Not really, not yet, still have along way to go. Never hit bottom yet where hopefully all the Killer Pontil bottles are. Got out last Saturday with Tom & Vic & Bill. Bills been a long time old time member in here so some might remember him from 10+ years ago. Been trying to talk Tom into digging this Cistern with me for past 5 years but he always poh pohs it & blows me & it off. But, Finally after 5 years he's agreed to entertain me with his presence. SO, With a big Rock in the way & Tree growing out of it we decided to just start digging into it on one side only for now. First to get to the bricks blocking the bigger hole & entrance. LEON. We found a old screw top condiment or food bottle from around 1900 turn of the Century with the big threads in top layer of fill.LEON.P1080635.jpgP1080636.jpg

Got some big Rocks out of the way but left the tree in, gives us something to grab onto on our way in & out. LEON. P1080637.jpgP1080638.jpg

Got like 7 or 8 feet down & still no bottom. We'll have to come back again on next nice weekend. LEON.P1080640.jpgP1080642.jpg

Looks like you’re going to need a tripod and a bucket

Good luck! Some of my best digs have been cisterns, but 3/4 of the ones I have dug have been empty. The ones I have had good luck with have all been full of 1900-1920 stuff...guess that is when they got city water here and didn't need the cisterns any more.

Bill said he had a Tripod he may bring when we showed him the Cistern 6 months earlier but he didn't bring it. Maybe next time & we may need it next time. LEON.

I've always been told Cisterns are hit or miss or some good some bad. BUT, While we were Digging this one Bill decided to tell us a story on how our Buddy Dan ( well known Detroit Area advanced Bottle Collector) dug a Cistern in a nearby town we are all familiar with & dug about 200 squat soda bottles all Pontiled. That there got us Motivated & Dirt started flying. LEON.
