Well this little gem doesn't have a pontil - that's because the art of glass blowing wasn't even invented yet.
This is a Hellenistic glass core-formed alabastron - it is about 2400 years old - give or take a few centuries.

Wow akronmarbles,
That is beautiful bottle (?). Its detail is really amazing.
That is a good question how did they make it? Can you give us anymore history on it?

There are two ways in which early glass like this was made. The earlier method involves creating a 'core' that coresponds to the desired vessel interior shape. The core was probably a mixture of clay, sand, and organic material. This core is placed onto the end of a metal rod and is slowly dried so it doesn't crack. The core is then dampened slightly on the surface so that powdered glass will adhere to it. This is then slowly dried and brought up to a temperature where the powder glass melts and starts to form a skin or layer over the core - repeat this process to build up the desired wall thickness. Decorations are then applied by winding premade glass rods and or hot bits of glass onto the core and then the vessel is finished.

The second way involves winding glass rods or actually winding gathered molten glass onto the core to creat the base - it wasn't dipped into a crucible of molten glass. This was low temperature stiff glass working.

All of the above operations were conducted over a localized heat source - say like a fire directed via a flue.
