Santa came today...

Guess what Santa sent me today via USPS? Check it out... I had seen articles about the steamship Republic in the FOHBC journal and in Smithsonian and was fascinated by the story... Now I got the whole story and beautiful photos, to boot!!!

I would suggest this as a gift to all good little boys and girls who haunt this corner of cyber space!!!

I had seen articles about the steamship Republic in the FOHBC journal and in Smithsonian and was fascinated by the story...

Wanted to correct my own error... There were two steamboat recoveries with bunches of bottles on board... The Arabia was the subject of the FOHBC and Smithsonian articles... Lots of good background in the Smith. article, but for pics of the bottles, go to FOHBC... This steamboat was dug out of a cornfield that had once been a channel of the Missouri River... The Republic was sunk off the coast of Georgia and the recovery was an actual deep sea affair...

All accounts are totally fascinating and well worth your time...!

Holy Crap that thing is deep to have only been there a relitively short time, archy speaking of course. Water can sure move some dirt.

There's an idea for the motherload yard.... large pumps and track-hoes....I read about one of these steamboat digs a couple of years ago. The site was several hundred yards from the current riverbank.

Here is a pic of some things that Sandy Claws little diggers/helpers sent me. The Dixi is right up my alley and so is the old Ford horn button/light switch and Duffy's.

I already ha a honey amber and amber. This one is a root beer color and is really beautiful in the sun light which by the way we havent had much of lately.[&o]

The horn button goes on the wall of my shop.
