Found this a while ago metal detecting, but got it out during these doldrum days of winter and while cleaning it off discovered the monogram. It's only about three inches long and I think is brass. The next pic will show the larger end where another something was crimped on. The final pic will show the monogram which is NWR? or some combo of that. Since the R is larger I was wondering if there is a railroad or railway connection but it could well just be someone's initials. Any guesses as to what this mystery relic might be?

It is unique! Did you find it around a RR?

I thought it cartridge for an air gun at first glance.

A nozzle is definitely a possibility, but I wonder what purpose the slotted hole played? A whistle would be cool, but it doesn't whistle though parts are definitely missing. A google search of nozzles turns up a defunct web site, though I can send an email to the founder. A google search of conductor's train whistles lands you in a sea of toy whistles so I'm not sure if there were any that looked like this. Could be part of a lamp? Thanks for the input guys. The mystery continues........

Hey Steve, Maybe a cigarette holder? I have heard them called Denicotea but that is the name of a popular brand of cigarette holder.

It's part of an umbrella. This is the part closest to the handle when closed, that you slide towards the top to upen the umbrella up. the notch you see on the left of the 1st pic is where the latch clicks in to kepp it open. The segmented end looks like the umbrella/parasol peices I find when I go detecting (and have be ID'd as such by others). Neat find!
