Hello everyone. I am new to antique bottle collecting. If it hadnt been for discovering numerous bottles on my construction site I dont thing I would have become involved. We have found bottles allmost every day for the past 2-3 weeks.I have accumulated approx 2 dozen good bottles so far. I have to say I am intriqued and want to learn more. You will see my posts here now that I have discovered this site.
My first post is for one of the more unique bottles that we have found ,only as it refers to the shape.
the base is basicly flat and is embossed with -- pateneted July 12th 1894. There is also a line in the glass that looks like an imperfction and unintentional approx1/8 x 1/2. not unlike a scar in the glass.
So far how am i doing?
Any help would be helpful.
Thanks a million for the great site.

Doing well.
It looks like a food jar of some sort. Perhaps turn of the century (1900) honey, mustard or relish jar. Just a guess without seeing it better.

I agree with Joel on the turn of the century, but believe it held liquid or dry material. Perhaps pepper or another dried spice? Maybe even extract.
Nice looking bottle!

Yes it is nice. I'de hold on to it. I have meds and pharmacies I can't find anything out about. Someday when the books are written, it may be worth something. In the interim it is good to look at. Great conversation piece too. You could make up a whale of a story behind it for your friends. [8|]
