Been doing lots of probing on this old farm homestead.
On our 4th trip we uncovered this brick lined cistern? / Privy?/ well? so far at 8 or 10' all we have found is 1940's stuff. We are going back next week to dig deeper. I would think a privy would be square? so far it's dry. After we dig this we still have at least 4 privy holes and a dump to dig. Here's a few pics.

Hi Glen,
That looks like an old well to me. Sounds like a great place to dig!

Doesnt look like a cistern. Looks like a well but I guess it could be a privy. If its a well be carefull digging, you dont want the bottom dropping out while you are standing there.

Thanks for the advice Matt & Rich. We are being very careful probing as we go. I'm lucky to have some of oregon's most experenced diggers to help me. We also have a guy from the metal detecting club checking the tailings. If we find anything good I'll post some photos.
Glen
