Finally got around to digging into an old communal farm dump on my property. I haven't been to excited about it because I'm dealing with a lot broken and melted glass from them burning and it was bulldozed in the early 1960's to make fish ponds. I've cleaned up a lot of the surface and will start poking into the "tailings" as I try to find an area that looks good.

It's been decades since I dug for glass, but what the hey. I'll take an old dump for starters.

My neighbor said there was a homestead here that was built in the 1800's, and that after the house went abandoned, they razed it and used it for a used it for the dump for about 5 farms. The size is about right. I have found some glass bottom dated to '62 and '63 so that's about right for when they formed the ponds.

Lots of old metal pulleys and implement parts. Found a lot of broken pre-1900 Mason jars. Not unusual, even for a later dump as these were re-used. Anyway, I started one hole near the top of the hill. Found some smalls as that's about all that can survive at that area. Small perfume and a small Gebhardt Eagle Chili Sauce. Lots of pottery shards and milk glass.

Anyone know what this green bottle might be? Ribbed sides like an old poison. Still has screw cap intact. Some blueish/black stain inside. Shoe polish?

I'll get some pics of the dump tomorrow.
