19th C. Stoneware Water Dispencer Found During River Hunt

Had a very fun river adventure today with kayak and snorkeling for treasures. Discovered a new bottle dump along the way and excavated a stoneware artifact from the mud of the riverbank.

The stoneware artifact as it was discovered and then excavated:

If anyone has any information about this stoneware artifact please share. There are no markings on it. The only original opening is the hole for the tap, I've never seen anything like this.

Some other interesting finds included an early brass camera aperture still with an intact lens as well as two glass insulators bearing patent dates of 1883 and 84.

Very interesting, this is the first time I'm hearing of such devices! So fascinating. Now all I need are some chickens and a shallow dish to put this in and we can reconstruct a Victorian-age poultry concern.

I've also found one. It is a chicken waterer. It would've had a stoneware plate that went under it.

So happy for you as that jug is so lovely. Enjoy displaying it in a special place. I always enjoy finding special things and not buying them as then I have a memory and a story to go with the bottle I have on display. A number of years ago, I was snorkeling in a lake in Indiana and found a clay jug shaped like an owl with an insurance company stamp on the bottom. As I love owls, it is a favorite treasure. Happy hunting.
