Hello All!

I acquired an unusual bottle that I've been unable to find any history or information about in my searches. The bottle has a form similar to a chow chow bottle with molded elements - post-bottom mold with lettering (and possibly made in a three-piece mold?). The shoulder of the bottle reads "Ambrosial Coffee" and the bottom of the bottle reads "Hull Hicks & Co. Marketplace". Height is 7.25" Base is 3" Top is 2.25"

Any insight would be appreciated and I am happy to provide additional images/measurements!

Cheers!

One more thing. It appears a coffee jar to me.
Hi Al! Thanks for chiming in - the coffee jar assessment seems assured (;)) and the stopper info is great! I am curious about date, country of origin, and manufacturer - it really is a bit of a mystery!

It's really a mystery to me too like most of the the bottles I've got Lady.
I show a sort of stoppers that maybe are the same type that fixed your jar. Date late XIX to early XX century 20200129_170038.jpg

Wow! Those stoppers for sure look right. Dating sounds right too. I am curious about the product too. Any thoughts? I'm in the US and this bottle came from the Eastern/New England area and there really isn't very much info about coffee containers that aren't made of metal.

I don't think I've seen a coffee jar like that before. I've seen British bottles for instant coffee mix from around the same time but never a jar. I wonder if they sold pre-ground coffee back then. Date-wise I'd put it at around 1880-1930. Pretty wide age range but they continued using older manufacturing methods for quite a while in the UK.

Yes! It is quite a stumper. The coffee bit is what drew me into it, but answers are lacking. Instant coffee makes sense given the size and nature of the bottle and a UK provenance makes sense - the bottom markings sounded like a British company. Thanks for the input!
