Good signs! i hope you find some whole stuff.I always have bad luck at those "back woods" sites. It always seems like the people back then smashed all of the bottles in the small dumps. I hope you get lucky. post up some bottles when you find them.

Looks promising! Are the trails in a park or something? If so, I'd be careful digging there. Could land yourself a hefty fine for digging in a park. Good luck none-the-less!

Thanks folks. Got to digging there yesterday and found no whole bottles but more good sign. This isn't a park per say but it is Crown land. The trails are managed and maintained by a local off road bike club. This dig site I will be able to restore once I'm done - that's my defense should the need arise. lol

I got a good start on a burn site but the surface is frozen about 4 inches thick right over the deepest part - I under mined about 2 feet but can't get deeper till this thaws. At about 2.5 feet down I hit a big hole in 2 different spots under this frozen layer. I've a coupla photos of my progress.

This first photo shows something that feels real familiar but I just can't place it....any guesses?

This looks like an igniter to a torch to me. Grip it and a spark flies off igniting an aceteline torch. Not sure, but that's what it looks like to me.

Mnjars,

I should have mentioned that it's about 10 inches long, the round portion about 3 inches in diameter. One surprising note...the handles move smoothly when actuated. Odd considering all the rust elsewhere and the apparent age.
