I found this heavy glass jug. The handel i found without the screw so I put one on for the pictures. It has a weird screw top with a spring loaded plunger through it. Maybe to relieve pressure. Could be missing rubber gaskets. Chemical jug? Anyone know what the cap function and use for a jug like this was?

kerosene stove jug
Oh, thanks coreya. I guess that was some kind of seal on top. It was a free find. Don't find too many metal closures on jugs. Another 5-10 years and this one would have crumbled away. It is on the thin side but still solid enough. Thanks again and congratulations on your yard sale slaying. I have to start looking around my area.

I see now after doing a search on kerosene jugs. It is 1930's. Found its twin except for they are missing the cap. I was afraid that the handle was not correct. I find the pieces and try to figure out how and to who it goes to. I guess I hit the nail on the head with this one, wow. I still have another piece I thought might be part of the closure but I think no. Off a stoneware bottle of sorts I think.

What you refer to as the top is actually the bottom when it is inserted in the stove. I used one of these in a hunting cabin. Worked great, good heat but has an odor.

Oh wow! I should have thought that like a water jug, it is used upside down. How cool is that? I think so. Never used or saw one. Thanks for the information UncleBruce.

I guess you are just not old enough Robby, I remember Kerosine stoves being used in the summer instead of the coal cook stove used in cooler weather. That was especially true in coal country.

I guess not, I had a coal burning cast-iron stove if that counts but no kerosene heater. I remember a camping stove but I think it ran on coleman fuel.
