Dug this odd one this eve in Quincy Il. It is a tooled top, with an eagle with what looks like an American shield underneath at a slight angle, with a fancy "W" with what look like leaves sticking out on the sides and "Trade Mark" below, and that is it. Has a mold # on base and nuthin' else. Anyone have any clue s to the company of this one? Thanks. Jack

I am pretty sure it is a Weideman's beer from Cincinnati . Been a while since I have seen one so I can say 100 percent that it is .

Lou's right, but it's from Kentucky not Ohio...Great job Lou

George Wiedemann Sr. was born in Eisenach, Germany, in 1833, Wiedemann came to the United States as a young man in 1855. He moved to Newport, Kentucky in 1870. He was the founder of the George Wiedemenn Brewing Company, which became Kentucky's largest brewery. It was located at 601 Columbia Street in Newport, Kentucky. Wiedemann beer was synonymous with Newport. Wiedemann promoted itself as "America's only registered beer" and often used humorous radio commercials as part of its advertising campaigns.

Wiedemann married Agnes Rohman and they had six children. Newspaper accounts described Wiedemann as an honest man with a natural sociability and a dignified businessman.

On May 28, 1890, George Wiedemann became ill and died at his home at 188 East Third St in Newport. The business was continued to operate by his sons, George Jr. and Charles.

Wiedemann Brewing was merged with G. Heileman Brewing Company, in 1967 and was operated as Wiedemann Division, G. Heileman Brewing Company, Inc. The primary brands were Wiedemann Fine Beer, Royal Amber Beer, Blatz Beer/Cream Ale and other assorted Heileman labels. The brewery was closed in 1983.[1]

The Wiedemann name was then sold, and today the beer is brewed by the Pittsburgh Brewing Co. in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

That's right Jim , think I need to go to bed , not thinking again this evening like on you drenching bottle auctions the other day . I was pretty sure it was Weideman , but sure had the city wrong . I used to have a lot of the embossed crown top beers from Cincinnati and the Weideman was in with the bunch of them .

I remember when I started digging for bottles , I thought the embossed crown top beers were really neat till I finally got in a better dump and dug some blob top beers . It was after that when I got rid of all of the crowns . I like Cincinnati bottles better than any others as for beers and sodas . Of course I like many other bottles from other areas as well . I have a blob beer somewhere out in the garage with one heck of a crude blob on it .

Thanks you guys, I'd never have found that info on my own....and LC, it's funny about the crown top beers as I recall digging in the 60's we would leave them in the dumps, along with the crown sodas, milks, and foodstuff jars. How much it's all changed, (or not.) But I am with you on the crown vs. blob tops. I have a "special" cabinet for the crowns, hidden out in the garage. Maybe someday in a hundred years they might get rare(ish). Look at how many historical flasks were made. Where are they all??!! The more things change, the more they stay the same....Jack
