Here is a molded redware tea pot circa 1810-20 Most people would expect this to be an English made piece but I have found much more evidence that earthenware molded tea pots were being produced in most major east cost cities by the early 19th century this example has a very atypical light brown colored lead glaze most of these are highly fired and have a semi metallic black lead glaze.

Next is a stoneware bowl of an indeterminate age. It was dug in a fill layer dating to the early 1850s However many of the shards in this layer dated much earlier. I believe the piece to be more circa 1820. As the form of the piece would have still been in vogue during that time. I have only herd of one other stoneware bowl in this form but that is a highly decorated presentation piece made in Manhattan during the early 19th century. The clay body does not match a New York piece and I expect the bowl is more southern and local to where it was dug. This is a piece that will be requiring much more research.

AMAZING stuff Chris... Truth be told, seeing your reconstructions when I was learning about privy digging is what inspired me to save the shards when I started digging! Your pottery consistently amazes me, and I can only dream of digging such awesome stuff as you, whether whole or broken... Maybe you can give me that first piece, then it can grant me three wishes... One of 'em is gonna be to dig with you someday!
