Wow, is it still sealed with contents? What's the re-corking date? Do you know the story behind it? If that's actually wine from 1815 that could be a pretty special find. I wonder what the relation is to the Battle of Waterloo.

Was given to me along with others and yes there is still some in it. IT BELONGED TO SOMEONE IN THE MILLITARY WHO HAS PASSED.

It’s probably not drinkable but I would do my best to try and track down the provenance if at all possible.
Very cool piece

I beg to differ about it not being drinkable, I purchased a few years ago a large jug from George Bernhardt from Galt. It had a cork in it and a paper label that said red wine. This was at least 100 plus years old, I pulled the cork and poured some of the contents out and it was absolutely marvellous. I had some of my wine snob friends out and they tried some and equated it to a fine Madera wine. When this wine was made they were in the habit of fortifying wine with alcohol so there is a good chance it is ok. Saying that I would not open it as that would negate the true value.

I based my response on his post which made it sound like there was just some left and the cork has been leaking for 150 years.
