Ebay has scrambled the user ids on bidding and hidden them on other seller's feedback. When new buyers come around it is pretty darn hard to figure out who they are. There hasn't been much new blood bidding on ebay when it comes to the picture label ACLs that I like. It is mostly the same 6 or 7 guys bidding on the good ones. All of the sudden in the past few month's I am seeing some new bidders. They appear to be bidding pretty enthusiastically, too. The Zing is normally about a $50 bottle and he Jayhawk usually brings around $100. Anyone know these new bidders? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Zing-Zoda-musical-notes-picture-label-ACL-soda-bottle-Millstadt-IL-1940s/191209127353?_trksid=p2046732.c100040.m2060&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140107095009%26meid%3D7689947408724456194%26pid%3D100040%26prg%3D20140107095009%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D231255847312#ht_260wt_1330 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Jayhawk-Fine-Beverages-Ottawa-KS-ACL-Soda-Pop-Bottle-/371064751854?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item56652ec6ee#ht_44wt_1330

When I see lots of bids, many of which are small amounts, I think it is just someone running the price up. If these bottles usually don't go that high and all of a sudden there is a bidding war on them, it sounds suspicious. That's just MHO, of course. Probably not the case here, since they are different sellers and not geographically close together. There could be a bunch of new kids on the block and they all want to start big.

I don't see why they want to protect bidder IDs so much except in the case of harassment or something. It seems to me the bigger problem is shilling. I'm sometimes suspicious of some new bidder out of nowhere. Should be able to see their record and feedbacks, IMO.

Choot, if its this time of year again, I'm going to break out my ACLs on the bay.

Based on those two bottles I see no sign of any shill bidding. The two highest bidders on the Zing only bid once. Just exuberance and maybe an improving economy bringing the collectors back out again? Really it should be good for the hobby that there seems to be increased interest.

Shill bidding can definitely be a problem on ebay. I have had a few times where I had it happened to me. I don't think it is shill bidding here, though. There seems to be about 4 guys with feedback numbers that I do not recognize. They are bidding fairly aggressively and winning a lot. There is one guy who seems to like to run up the bid but rarely wins. This is great if you are a seller but not too much fun as a buyer. It's good to have some new blood. I have seen the number of collectors really decline over the past 5 years or so. Without collectors there is no hobby.

Zing Zoda: This soda had high bidders that were of interest to the geography of metro St Louis, previous owners' relation and bidders that bid on different sellers of acls (probably making bidders collectors). There was no shilling, and thanks to the positive analysis comments here that were made about the various bidders.Regarding this bottle:[ul][*]fairly scarce[*]locally desirable - many have been looking for some time to acquire it[*]unusual image of music notes and catchy name making it a nice attractive addition to a collection of any type[/ul]
