I found these on the surface yseterday of an area that has produced bottles from the early 1900's.
Anyone have a rough age estimate of these shards?
Does any one know what type of bottle the shard with the embossing is?
Are those pontil marks on the bottoms?
Thank you all! DSC_0624.jpgDSC_0625.jpgDSC_0626.jpg

Hello. They seem to be 1880s 1900s and no those are not pontils, but what is called a post mold mark (big dimple in bottom of bottle). The embossed bottle looks like a med or quack cure of some kind. I f I were you I would start digging or seriously probing the area............Andy

Awesome! Thank you very much!
I have dug some but the bottles kinda come out at random.
So many rocks in that area its a pain.
There is a big hole there not far from an old foundation, could be a privy.

Is the big hole looking like it may have been dug?? if not I would start digging, and do not do that alone, get help from a buddy, being buried in a privy would not be fun.........Andy

When I found it, it was about a foot or two deep. Like maybe it had sunken in. I metal detected around it and found some cast iron. I dug down probably another two feet but just rocks and more hard dirt.

The embossed one is from a Dr. Miles Restorative Nervine. Looks like it would have been a nice earlier one if it was whole. It's a pretty common bottle though so not that much of a crier.

Could that hard dirt be a clay cap, because a lot of privies were covered with a clay cap and then surrounding dirt and rocks thrown in to level it up when finished..Andy
