They're not new to the collection, but they are in my Top 10 all-time Paterson bottles. Pair of Kinch bottles with Albertson & Matthews stopper, maybe one day I'll find the actual closure part so than can be properly displayed...

These might be the only examples you'll ever see...


The top one is embossed BOTTLE STOPPER BY JOHN MATTHEWS / NEW YORK PATENTED / AUG 26TH 1862

The bottom has ALBERTSON STOPPER PATENTED AUG 26TH 1862 / MADE BY / MATTHEWS / NEW YORK

Love those odd patent closures. There sure were some off beat ones. You'd have a hard time digging a survivor there, as it looks like fairly fine wire. It would have to come out of a barn or an attic or something.

There were numerous attempts at improved patent closures but those win the grand prize for being the most unusual.(at least that I have seen)
