I was scrolling thru ABN to see what was happening the other night after game 4 of the Ranger-Devil playoff game when a saw a post asking about bottle values at an Antiques Mall in New Hampshire, one of the bottles was a Congress Water and the other was tough to make out because the pic was so dark.
I thought I could see a N.J. embossed on it so I did a little computer work on it and saw it was embossed Great Notch Spring Water Co., Bottled at the Spring, Great Notch N.J.. This got me really interested because Great Notch, a section in Little Falls N.J., is about a half mile up the hill from me. In fact my buddy owns the Great Notch Inn on Rt. 46, it's been in the family since around 1900, so this has piqued my interest. Across the highway on the Montclair State University property is a natural spring in an old quarry and it may be the source of this Spring Water.
It turns out the company was only in business about 18 months from 1914-1916 and had it's charter declared null and void on Jan.18, 1916. I will do more research to see what else I can find thru the town historian and the Little Falls library.
The bottle arrived today and I am floored by it!! It's an amazing aqua color and an impressive 5 pints in size, this may be my candidate for "Bottle of the Month" on Rick's Bottle Room site after I do the research. As far as I know it is the only known example in existence and I'm honored to own it, it is now thee best bottle in my collection as far as I am concerned!!
A HUGE Thank You to Ryan(Bottles R Left) for finding it and posting about. He didn't realize it was local to me but without him asking about this beauty would still be sitting in a shop in New Hampshire...
