I believe it was an attempt to make a 'dispenser' bottle as a marketing gimmick, but it never caught on and was soon discontinued. It was some years back, but I'm sorry I can't remember when.

Ritide55,

tis may be what you have - taken from the Bayer History site:

1899

Aspirin™ is registered as a trademark. It is launched on the market in powder form. Bayer delivers the medicine to pharmacies in small 250-gram glass vials. 500 mg of the powder is then weighed out and dispensed to customers in small paper bags. Just one year later, Bayer launches the analgesic in its classic tablet form – one of the first medicines to be marketed in this dosage form.

Interesting to think it would have been dispensed in anything other than the tablet form, but I suppose that's the way they did it back then (apothecary jars, etc)

Thank you so much for the information. I think that may be it.
